As of today, the American Coalition of Ukrainian Organizations (ACUO) stands strong with the active participation of 25 organizations, primarily concentrated on the West Coast of the United States. However, this is just the beginning of our journey. ACUO is a dynamic membership association dedicated to promoting and preserving Ukrainian culture, heritage, and values. We strive to foster unity and collaboration among our member organizations, and to provide them with the necessary resources and support to thrive.
PAST EVENTS
February 24
February 24th is the day of remembrance. In Los Angeles it will start off with the press conference followed by a mass in Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angeles and a large protest along with a number of commemorative events in San Diego, San Francisco and other cities across the globe.
February 25
February 25th features the events highlighting the documentation and reflection on the struggle of war and fighting spirit of Ukrainian defenders and civilians alike. In Los Angeles the movie screening, photo exhibition and a mass at St. Andrew’s Ukrainian Church will mark this day of defiance and resistance, while San Diego will organize a protest rally.

February 26th brings together every member of our larger community in Ukrainian Culture Center of Los Angeles as well as many more community spaces across California and other states in the spirit of unity, support and hope.

Local Ukrainian Community Leaders and Ukraine Experts to Speak on Friday, February 24 Candlelight Vigil to be held on Sunday, February 26; Delegates from 16 European Nations to Attend
Los Angeles, CA, February 21, 2023 – To mark 365 days of the russian invasion of Ukraine, on Friday, February 24, beginning at 9:00 am (PST), the diaspora leaders of the Southern California Ukrainian Coalition and other Ukrainian studies experts, joined by local and national politicians, will be available to answer questions about the one-year anniversary of the russian invasion of a sovereign nation, and its subsequent genocide of the Ukrainian people. Local experts will be available to discuss next steps in the war effort and the community’s continued support for Ukraine and displaced Ukrainians in Southern California and around the world.
Leadership of key Los Angeles and other Southern California Ukrainian-American volunteer organizations will be available to discuss in person on Friday, February 24 at the Ukrainian Culture Center of Los Angeles, located at 4315 Melrose Ave., Los Angeles, CA, 90029. Assembled leaders, including representatives of the Southern California Ukrainian Coalition, will also discuss weekend events for the greater Los Angeles area marking one-year since the invasion.
A candlelight vigil will also be held on Sunday, February 26 at the Ukrainian Culture Center at 1:00 pm (PST). Roman Sheremeta, an advisor for Ukrainian President Zelenskyy and professor of economics at Case Western Reserve University, and founding rector of the American University Kyiv, will be among the keynote speakers. Other notable speakers include Dmytro Kushneruk, Consul General of Ukraine in San Francisco, and Izabela Lundberg, Balkan war genocide survivor and expert in war trauma, genocide survival and rehabilitation across more than 120 countries. Delegates of multiple European nations are also expected to attend the vigil.
In support of Ukraine, Los Angeles City Hall will be lit up in blue and yellow, the colors of the Ukrainian flag, for the weekend of February 24-26.
